Better Credit, Better Job

Potential employers may be considering more than just your work experience when deciding whether to offer you a job. Recent studies suggest as many as one-third of employers review job seekers’ credit reports when deciding which candidates to hire. Employers filling jobs that deal with large amounts of money or sensitive information are the most likely to screen job seekers using credit reports. A positive credit history may convey to potential employers that you are responsible in your personal life and, thus, are likely to carry that responsibility into your work life as well. Some employers consider candidates with poor credit ratings to be high-risk for theft and even bribery. Although you may not be considering a job change anytime soon, you most likely will a few months or years down the road. When you do, having a good credit history can expand your job options and help you land that dream job.
